What Is Sublimation
What Is Sublimation?
I get this question at nearly every craft fair — and I love explaining it.
Sublimation is a special printing process that permanently infuses a design into the surface of an item — not just on top. Unlike vinyl or stickers that sit on the surface, sublimation uses heat, pressure, and time to bond the ink directly into the coating of the product. The result is a smooth, professional, and long-lasting finish that won’t peel, crack, or wash off.
How the Process Works
Every piece starts long before the heat press ever turns on.
Each design is carefully created and sized using professional design programs. I layer graphics, fine-tune colors, and ensure everything lines up perfectly for each specific item. Some designs can take hours to complete before they’re even printed.
Once the artwork is finalized, it’s printed using a genuine sublimation printer, sublimation ink, and specialty sublimation paper to achieve the most vibrant and high-quality results possible.
The Heat & Magic
The printed design is then applied using:
• A heat press for flat items like coasters, towels, and glass cutting boards
• A sublimation oven for curved items like mugs, tumblers, and glass cans
When the correct combination of heat, pressure, and timing is applied, the ink turns into a gas and permanently bonds with the coated surface. This creates bold, durable color that becomes part of the item itself.
Custom & Personalized Creations
Many of my items can be fully customized and personalized. From meaningful gifts to one-of-a-kind designs, I love working with customers to bring their ideas to life.
